Add Web Holes
Drill holes through the web of the beam
Every multi-hole pattern runs between the selected end clearances. Adjacent holes retain a clear gap at least equal to the selected hole size. Choose either the centre spacing or the number of holes as the driver; the other value is calculated. 450mm and 600mm are preferred centres, and custom centres are available when needed. Centre spacing sets the pattern. The number of holes and exact even centres are calculated to reach both ends.

Add Mitre Cut
Angled cut to your specification
Mitre cuts can be between 25 to 89 degrees. Cut start height is measured up from the bottom of the member.
Mitre cuts add approximately 1 working day to the standard lead time.

Add Top Plate
Plate welded to the top of the beam
Add a continuous Flat Bar welded along the full top of the beam; only bars at least as wide as the selected member can be used.

Add Bearing Plates
Separate support plates below the beam
Separate bearing plates sit underneath the beam. Multiple plates are stacked together at the first support position.

Universal Beams are also referred to as I beams or H-sections due to their profile appearance. They have a greater depth than universal columns which means they have a higher load capability and are most commonly used as horizontal structural supports.

Universal beams can be ordered online in cut lengths from 1,000mm to 14,000mm. Eligible simple beams ordered by 11am can be ready the next working day. Other standard orders typically take 2–4 working days. Finishing and fabrication requirements can extend the lead time; check the date shown in the order builder for your selected options.

Choose your section size and enter the required cut length in the order builder, then select the available finish and fabrication options. Review the specification and displayed availability before adding it to your order.

About Steel Universal Beams

Steel beams are structural elements that are used in construction and engineering. They are typically made of steel, which is an alloy of iron and carbon. Steel beams are used to support the weight of buildings, bridges, and other structures, as well as to provide a stable foundation for the construction. There are several different types of steel beams, including wide flange beams, I-beams, and hollow steel beams. The shape and size of the beam can be varied to suit the specific needs of the structure. Steel beams are known for their strength and durability, and they are able to withstand significant loads without bending or breaking. They are also resistant to corrosion, which makes them suitable for use in a variety of environments.
